Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Day was founded in honor of Swiss humanist Henry Dunant who was born this day in 1828 year. In the middle of XIX century Dunant organized first volunteers’ groups to help wounded soldiers on the battlefield. In 1864 in Geneva the Diplomatic Conference was called which was the base for International Red Cross Movement. This Movement tasks are rendering assistance to all people suffered in military conflicts: wounded, ill, prisoners of war as well as to natural disaster’s victims.
In the lines and in the rear of the Great Patriotic War, the Russian Red Cross made its mission: preparing of medical nurses on accelerated courses, voluntary patrol, sanitary instructors, providing medical service with donor’s blood, saving our Land defenders’ lives…
This day we congratulate all people, connected with this noble Red Cross activity: who was rendering assistance to people in extreme situations, who was providing life and salvation, who was not waiting for glory, praising and awards in return.
This is a great day for and it is important to say that nowadays it is celebrated not only in honor of volunteers, providing assistance to wounded people on the battlefield but also in honor of those who respond on any trouble and human sufferings whether it is military conflict, earthquake or a damage.
