17.05.2013 Irkutsk branch of the Russian Red Cross starts to accept donations to help the community members suffering from the major emergencies that happened in our region this May

Dear friends, colleagues and partners!

This is to announce that the Irkutsk branch of the Russian Red Cross accepts donations to support the people who were affected by the two major emergencies that happened in Irkutsk oblast this May:

  • Mi-8 helicopter crash during a flood response operation to the north of the Irkutsk oblast
  • Severe flooding in Katangsky and Kirensky districts

Official note:

Mi-8 helicopter with an emergency response team on board crashed in the Katangsky district of the Irkutsk oblast.

As per the information by the Headquarters of the RF Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) in Irkutsk oblast, the flight dispatchers lost from their screens the Mi-8 helicopter en route to the north of Irkutsk oblast to perform a flooding response operation.  The helicopter had on board a MES emergency response team and a load of explosives. The team consisted of 9 members, including the helicopter crew.

As the RF MES reports, this particular emergency response team managed to prevent flooding of 120 houses in the north of the region.

These are the names of people who were on board the crashed helicopter:

  1. Stanislav Omel’yanchik, acting head of HQ MES of RF in Irkutsk oblast;
  2. Alexander Stepanov, deputy head of the Baikal search and rescue detachment;
  3. Yuri Kashko, head of the North search and rescue detachment;
  4. Sergey Pezhensky, rescue and shooting crew member of the North search and rescue detachment;
  5. Igor Chekrygin, senior specialist of the “Emergency Situations Center”; 
  6. Sergey Arbatsky, instructor of the Kirensk airborne fire-fighting detachment;

Helicopter crew of the Angara airlines:

  1. Igor Markov, captain;
  2. Andrey Zhizhelev, pilot-instructor;
  3. Alexey Kulebyakin, flight engineer.

 


Spring flooding in the Katangsky and Kirensky districts of the Irkutsk oblast reached a number of settlements. The people living in the flooded settlements were partially evacuated by the emergency response team of the RF Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).

At present, villagers from the two flooded settlements, Preobrazhenka and Eryoma, have appealed to the Irkutsk branch of the Red Cross for help. They have provided some information about the settlements, where all residents were affected by the disaster:

  1. Number of residents: Preobrazhenka – 457 people, Eryoma – 39 people
  2. Number of dwelling houses: Preobrazhenka – 130, Eryoma – 17
  3. Number of apartments: Preobrazhenka – 146, Eryoma – 21 (some of the houses consist of two apartments)
  4. Number of children from 0 to 17: Preobrazhenka – 103, Eryoma – 6
  5. Number of seniors: Preobrazhenka – 121, Eryoma – 8.
