Dear newsmakers,

To promote and implement non-discrimination mass media coverage of HIV\AIDS issues, the Russian Union of Journalists (RUJ) and Informational Center of the RUJ with the support of the UNAIDS (The Joint United Nations Program on HIV\AIDS) encourage you to take part in the Russian National Contest on best HIV\AIDS reports.

Chief Goals of the Contest are to promote non-discrimination mass media coverage on HIV\AIDS issues and facilitate advocacy of covering HIV\AIDS issues in mass media sources among decision-makers that work for different federal and regional mass media sources.

Contest is held in different nominations:
— best edition;
— best publication in mass media;
— best radio report\story;
— best radio program;
— best TV report\story;
— best TV program;
— best documentary;
— best Internet publication;

Professional newsmakers and students of news making faculties and departments, full- and part-time editorial staff, who work on federal and regional levels, are eligible for the contest if they have published information on HIV\AIDS in mass media sources or posted it online from January 1 till November 1, 2010.
An author has a right to submit an article, radio program or film, TV program, or a video to the contest. The length of articles and duration of TV programs or videos are not limited.
Originals or copies of publications, DVDs and Internet links are accepted with the required references to the names of the authors, their contact information, mass media sources, and the date of the publication or broadcast.
To participate in the contest, it is necessary to submit a package of documents: fill out an application form, which includes the following data: abstract of a piece of work; biographies of the authors/list of pieces of work, contact data; photo of an author of an article / author of a TV story, program/ director of a film; article /DVD copy of a video (films and TV programs) / audio records (radio programs).

Packages of documents should be submitted no later than November 10, 2010.

Submitted works will be evaluated by the Contest Jury Board, consisting of famous news makers, HIV\AIDS specialists, moviemakers, and community leaders.

The announcement of the results of the contest is to take place on December 1, 2010 at “Issues of HIV\AIDS reflected by mass media: an open dialog among Russian mass media leadership, representatives of the civil society, and health care institutions” Conference in Moscow.
Contest winners will be invited to Moscow to the Official Awards Ceremony, where they will be awarded special prizes and laureate diplomas.
The awarded works will be turned into synopses.
